OTTAWA, May 26 – More than 300 occupational therapists and related health care professionals from across Canada and internationally will gather in Whitehorse, Yukon for the annual conference of the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists. Themed “Exploring the frontiers of occupation,” the conference will offer presentations on First Nations and Inuit health, obesity and healthy occupation, mental health services in the north, older driver safety, primary health care, rehabilitation through technology as well as consumer presentations. <>
The opening ceremony will feature a welcome from the Yukon government by The Honourable Brad Cathers, Minister of Health and Social Services, Councillor Florence Roberts, Deputy Mayor, City of Whitehorse as well as representatives from the Kwanlin Dun First Nation. A highlight of the ceremony is an address by the keynote speaker Madeleine Dion Stout, a leader in First Nations and Inuit health, who will speak on the importance of how traditions, cultures, relationships and material worlds affect daily living. Join conference delegates at the Yukon Arts Centre, 300 College Drive at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 12 for the official opening of the conference.
