Media Advisory – Campaign 2000 to Release 2012 Report Card on Child and Family Poverty in Ontario

Toronto, Feb. 26, 2013 – Ontario Campaign 2000 will release its annual Report Card on Child and Family Poverty in Ontario on Thursday, February 28th in Toronto.  The 2012 report card, entitled Strengthening Families for Ontario’s Future, calls on Ontario’s minority government to reduce child and family poverty in the 2013 Budget.  Policy recommendations are offered to all political parties to redress the persistence of child poverty in Ontario.

Campaign 2000 is a cross-Canada public education movement to build awareness and support for the 1989 all-party House of Commons resolution to end child poverty in Canada by the year 2000. Campaign 2000 began in 1991 out of concern about the lack of government progress in addressing child poverty. Ontario Campaign 2000’s non-partisan coalition consists of over 60 partners from across the province working at the local level to address the realities of poverty in their communities. The coalition is united by our dedication to ending child poverty in Ontario and we research and publicize new, viable policy solutions to reduce and eradicate child poverty in the province through our annual report cards on child poverty which have been released annually for 15 years.

Media are invited to attend a media conference at the Queen’s Park Media Studio at 10am on Thursday February 28th featuring presentations from people with lived experience of poverty and advocates. A French spokesperson will be available for comment.

The report will be available on the day of release in English and French at www.campaign2000.ca.

Campaign 2000 is a non-partisan, cross-Canada network of 120 national, provincial and community partner organizations committed to working to end child poverty in Canada.  www.campaign2000.ca
