Press Release
(Kahnawake – 24, Enníska/February 2022) The Kahnawà:ke Public Safety Commission wishes to inform the community that as of Monday, February 28, 2022, proof of vaccination (QR Code) will no longer be a legal requirement for businesses in Kahnawà:ke. However, it will be up to the business should they prefer to continue using proof of vaccination as an option to help safeguard their employees and clientele.
“As previously communicated, the loosening of COVID-19 restrictions and measures is keeping in line with the reopening and Recovery Plan for the community,” said Lloyd Phillips, Commissioner of Public Safety. “While Proof of Vaccination will no longer be required for local businesses, we want to remind Kahnawa’kehró:non that COVID-19 still poses a health risk, and vigilance is still required, along with assessing your own acceptable level of risk.”
For the time being, Proof of Vaccination is still required at the Kahnawà:ke Sports Complex for all athletes, volunteers, and spectators during Kahnawà:ke Minor Hockey Association and Kahnawà:ke Figure Skating Club events. For details on the current restrictions, please refer to the Public Service Announcement issued today by the MCK’s Sports & Recreation Unit.
On a bi-weekly basis throughout the Recovery period, the Kahnawà:ke Public Safety Commission, along with the collaboration of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawà:ke (Office of the Council of Chiefs), will continue to evaluate, remove and/or reduce current COVID-19 measures and restrictions based on the situation in and around the Territory.
