The Akwesasne Family Wellness Program invites community members, allies, and frontline workers to a four-part series dedicated to creating inclusive care for 2SLGBTQIA+ clients. The series will include both in-person and virtual sessions.
WORKSHOP #1: AUGUST 29, 2024
Join us at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. for an introduction to fostering supportive spaces for Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. This session will explore the strengths, resiliency, and histories of the Two-Spirit and LGBTQIA+ communities.
WORKSHOP #2: SEPTEMBER 12, 2024
Anthony Johnson and Dr. James Makokis, the first Two-Spirit team on the Amazing Race Canada, will share their experiences and insights. Attend this session from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. at the Akwesasne Mohawk Casino Resort to learn about the challenges faced by First Nations and 2SLGBTQIA+ communities and how to advocate for change.
WORKSHOP #3: SEPTEMBER 2024 (DATE TBA)
This virtual workshop will address the increased risks of suicide and mental health struggles among 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals due to historic and ongoing structural violence. Gain valuable resources and strategies to support and ally with clients effectively.
WORKSHOP #4: OCTOBER 24, 2024
Join this virtual workshop to explore how to approach issues of violence and addiction within the 2SLGBTQIA+ community through the lens of cultural strengths and resiliency.
