May 5 National Day of Awareness for Missing Indigenous DC – Dawson Creek Mirror

Nawican officials are looking to place a Spirit Phone booth within the N.A.R. Park which will be accessible year-round and in a central location.

The project is pitched to be in conjunction with National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2-Spirit People (MMIWG2S) on May 5.

The committee believes the location is a safe space to hold ongoing conversations in raising awareness of missing and murdered Indigenous people.

“This awareness will extend not only to our local community, but as a key education piece for visitors to our community,” said Nawican organizers to city officials in correspondence last week, adding the long-term impacts of this project would include better community awareness, strengthened partnerships, and a dedicated improvement to collaborative cultural work within Dawson Creek.
