Manitoba Metis Heritage Fund Invests in Improved Care
for Manitoba Cancer Patients and Families
$65,000 donation to CancerCare Manitoba will support
patient and family support services
Winnipeg, MB – This afternoon, Manitoba Metis Heritage Fund (MMHF) representatives presented a donation of $65,000 to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. The funds will be directed toward patient and family support services, allowing CancerCare Manitoba to continue its efforts toward improved care for underserved populations in general and Métis, First Nations, and Inuit peoples in particular. The funds were raised at the MMHF’s “A Hunt for the Cure” Gala, held on Manitoba Day, May 12, 2018. The gala, featuring traditional Métis music, food and culture, was made possible through partnership with the Manitoba Metis Federation, Manitoba’s Métis government.
“It’s a very exciting day for us” said Denise Thomas, MMHF Chair. “I want to thank Manitoba Metis Federation and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation for partnering with us on ‘A Hunt for the Cure.’”
“We’ll continue to be a long-term partner with CancerCare” added MMF President David Chartrand. “I think we have the same vision, the same challenge and the same aspirations… It’s about helping Manitobans, and helping families, get a better chance and hope for their dreams, and their lives, and their future.”
“The Foundation is very grateful for the Manitoba Metis Heritage Fund’s generous donation,” said Annitta Stenning, president and CEO of CancerCare Manitoba Foundation. “This incredible partnership will benefit many cancer patients across our province who are living with cancer today or who will be diagnosed in the future.”
CancerCare Manitoba is the provincially mandated agency tasked with providing care, treatment and support to cancer patients across Manitoba. All funds raised and donated to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation remain in Manitoba to support CancerCare’s strategic priorities and its goal that no life is cut short by cancer.
The MMHF is the official charity of the Manitoba Metis Federation. Its mission is to support economically disadvantaged individuals, children, and families of the Manitoba Métis Community. “A Hunt for the Cure” was the MMHF’s second annual fundraising gala. Last year, the Fund donated $50,000 to Children’s Hospital Foundation.
The MMHF would like to thank the many individuals, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to “A Hunt for the Cure’s” success, including Metis N4 Construction Inc., Forbes Brothers Powerline Construction, CTV, NCI and many more. Charitable organizations wishing to partner with the MMHF for next year’s Manitoba Day gala are invited to contact the MMHF at 204-586-8474 ext. 331 or mmhf@mmb.mb.ca.
