Metis citizens that are age 65 and older with an annual income of $25,000 or less will now have access to the prescription drugs they need
November 16, 2017- Winnipeg, Today President David Chartrand of the Manitoba Métis Federation (MMF) made a historical announcement by releasing new details about the Métis Prescription Drug Program.
Metis elders, seniors, and other vulnerable Metis citizens face daily challenges in procuring prescription drugs. Under this new program, the MMF will ensure that Metis citizens that are age 65+ with $25,000 or less in annual income will have access and coverage to the prescription drugs they need to increase their quality of health and well-being. All prescription drugs dispensed and delivered under this program will be through MEDOCare Pharmacy.
“Starting today, eligible Metis citizens will be able to apply to the program, and benefit from this new Metis-specific prescription drug coverage” said President David Chartrand. “Quality of life will improve as well as overall health and we look forward to continuing to expand this program in partnership with Canada.”
The Program includes providing MMF calculated deductible covering prescription dispensing and delivery services of all prescription drugs directly to the eligible citizens. This will ensure that those who will benefit from the program will not incur additional travel costs, that they receive their prescriptions on time, and that the proper individuals receive the prescriptions.
MMF Health & Wellness Department and MEDOCare Pharmacy have entered a long-term partnership in the creation of Metis Health Benefits that will help to reduce the burden of illness and support self-management of multiple concurrent chronic conditions that are so prevalent in the Metis population.
The MMF continues to collaborate with Canada to ensure the success and expansion of the Program along with other Metis Health Benefits.
