Press Release
April 5, 2020 – Kuujjuaq, Nunavik – The suspension of the Makivik Volunteer Income Tax Program is being further extended to Monday April 13th. This extension will allow us to send the necessary protective gear to our tax agents in each community.
Considering the very high global demand for items such as masks, latex gloves and hand sanitizer, we are working to get these items to communities, ensuring both our tax agents and clients remain as safe as possible. We have now started to ship supplies to the communities, and will continue to send more until the 13th of April, and during the duration of the program. The Nunavik region is currently on “lockdown”, however cargo continues to function.
The Makivik Volunteer Income Tax Program provides personal tax services to approximately 6,000 Inuit Beneficiaries each year. Both Revenue Quebec and the Canada Revenue Agency have extended the deadline to produce and file personal income taxes to June 1, 2020.
Our physical offices at Makivik Corporation remain closed at this time. If you would like to get in contact with us, please do so by visiting www.Makivik.org/contact
