KRG: Prevention tool for alcohol abuse

Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik is pleased to announce the release of its video on alcohol abuse, including testimonies from victims.

This video presents the testimonies of seven women from Nunavik (Arctic Quebec) who share their experiences and their reflections on alcohol abuse. By sharing their personal paths to a healthy lifestyle in front of the camera, they hope that it can reach out more people in Nunavik and in the Canadian Arctic.

This DVD is the first and unique awareness-‐raising and prevention tool on alcoholism done by Inuit women for Inuit women, in their own language. The project developed by Saturviit was funded by the Arctic Affairs and Northern Development Canada, the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services, and the Secrétariat à la Condition féminine. It was also realized in a close partnership with the Prevention and promotion programs at Inuulitsivik Health Center and the Nunalituqait Ikajuqatigiitut Inuit Association.

Any person or organization interested in organizing prevention or healing activity on alcohol abuse may contact Saturviit and ask for a copy of the video. The video comes with an information booklet explaining what is alcohol abuse and what resources are available.

Saturviit Inuit Women’s Association of Nunavik is a non-‐profit organization whose mandate is to advocate for Inuit women and children and to support positive and healthy communities.
