Phase 4 Indigenous Communities Support Funding
COVID RELIEF PROJECT
NOVEMBER 2021 TO MARCH 31, 2022

The Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA) is very pleased to announce that will be receiving additional dollars from the Federal Government and through the Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated (NTI) for Phase 4 Indigenous Communities Support Fund (ICS Fund) for Covid related programs.

The KIA staff have been working very hard and was able to get the following projects approved.

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will take on the following list of new initiatives that promote meeting the objectives of the Phase 4 ICS Funding.

  1. Upgrade Community freezers in Kivalliq Communities – $350,000

-There have been instances where community freezers in Kivalliq Communities require upgrades. This amount will be divided up into equal amounts to be provided to each Kivalliq community for their freezer upgrades. $50,000 each X 7 Communities = $350,000

  1. Contribution to Food Banks in the Kivalliq – $105,000

The KIA will provide $15,000 to each food bank in each of the communities in the Kivalliq Region. $15,000 X 7 Communities = $105,000

  1. Contribution to the Manitoba Inuit Association – $35,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide a one-time contribution to the Manitoba Inuit Association to promote food security to the Inuit of Manitoba

  1. Contribution to the RCMP food hampers – $105,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide $15,000 to each RCMP station in the Kivalliq Region to aid in their annual Christmas Hamper drive.

  1. Contribution to Prenatal and Mental Health Programs – $140,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide financial support to the various organizations (Pulaarvik Kublu Friendship Centre, Young Hunters program etc) in the amount of $140,000 to promote prenatal and mental health programs being offered in the Kivalliq Region.

  1. Incentive for double-vaccinated beneficiaries – $232,000

In an effort to promote Kivalliq Inuit to get Double Vaccinated, the Kivalliq Inuit Association will purchase 1 ATV and 1 Snowmobile to every Kivalliq Community. Purchased from the Northwest Company, the KIA will receive one Honda 420 ATV and one 900 Ace Skidoo Expedition for every Kivalliq Community (7 of each total) which are all available already in each of the Kivalliq Communities. The KIA will hold a draw for a winner to get either equipment. In total there will be 14 winners.

  1. Kivalliq Inuit Association Gift Cards – $3,278,500

Similar to the last KIA gift card program, the Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide 1 gift card valued at $500 to every Inuk Beneficiary from the Kivalliq Region that is 16 years of age and older. This will include all Kivalliq Inuit, even if they live in urban centres in the south or going to school in other communities or regions. This project will be made available in early January. More details to follow.

  1. Contribution to Kivalliq HTO’s – Community Subsistance Harvests- $175,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide $25,000 to each of the HTO’s in the Kivalliq for Community Hunt Programs to provide country food to its Inuit Community.  $25,000 X 7 Communities = $175,000

  1. Pulaarvik Kublu Friendship Centre – Women’s Shelter/Domestic Violence – $210,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide a contribution to organizations that promote programs to curb domestic violence and or provide Women’s Shelters in the Kivalliq region.

  1. Application Based funding – $1,000,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will have available to organizations/public in the Kivalliq an amount of $1,000,000 for application-based programs that promote programs and services that are in line with the objectives of the ICS funding.

  1. Contribution to DEA Breakfast Program – Kivalliq Schools – $105,000

The Kivalliq Inuit Association will provide a donation the Kivalliq Schools that provide breakfast programs in their communities. $15,000 each X 7 communities = $105,000
