FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
It Takes a Special Person to Care for Others
Happy Nursing Week
2014
“. . . I think the basic sense of personal responsibility that forms an important part of a nurse’s training must be the guiding ethic in any profession involving human and social services. For many of you, I would predict that the greatest test of your professionalism will be your ability to apply your knowledge in a practical way, to put yourselves at the service of those communities and individuals whose need is greatest.” (Jean Goodwill, RN, LLD) In support of National Nursing Week, nurses across Canada will celebrate the contributions that our profession makes to improve the health of all Canadians. This year’s theme identifies “Nurses as a Leading Force for Change” and builds on the beliefs of society that nurses are one of the most respected health care professionals in the industry. Today, we continue to face many significant challenges, yet nurses have not given up and continue to be the champions in creating a healthier world.
As First Nations, Inuit, and Metis nurses, A.N.A.C honors your dedication and service to Aboriginal Peoples in Canada and acknowledges the strength and power of Indigenous knowledge and its impact on the future practice. As nurses continue to be the change in leading a way forward it is with utmost respect and gratitude that ANAC acknowledges each and every nurse across the country who engages in culturally responsive and safe care ensuring the individuals, families, communities and nations we serve are treated with the utmost respect.
Join us in celebrating May 12, 2014 as Aboriginal Nurses Day to highlight the important work nurses do. It is with great honor that A.N.A.C supports our membership and collaborators who respond to the calls for action and undertake the work in promoting Aboriginal health. On behalf of the Board of Directors, Staff and the Great Spirit we thank each of you and look forward to our continued to work together.
