Iqaluit Elders’ Home reopens

Press Release

Iqaluit, Nunavut (February 3, 2022) – Minister of Health, John Main is happy to welcome clients back to the Iqaluit Elders’ Home.

“I am happy to report that the new contractor, the Pimakslirvik Corporation, has staff in place and are beginning to accept clients,” said Minister Main. “The first Elder was admitted on February 2 and additional clients will be admitted weekly until all seven beds are filled. I would like to thank Department of Health staff and our partners with the Nunavut Housing Corporation for all their work to reopen the Elders’ home.”

Major renovations include a new kitchen, new flooring and new paint. New windows will be installed in the spring or summer.

The Pimakslirvik Corporation, which is Inuit owned, has a strong reputation and track record for managing health facilities in Nunavut, including Chesterfield Inlet and Arviat.

Over the coming weeks, and based on their current assessed needs, Elders who were relocated to Embassy West Senior Living last year will return to the Iqaluit Elders’ home. Scheduling of those clients coming back to Iqaluit will be dependent on the status of the COVID-19 outbreak at Embassy West.
