With the parliamentary precinct, the federal government itself, and businesses and services operating under federal jurisdiction shuttered to observe the first National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, today’s political itinerary has no scheduled events.
As previewed in yesterday’s edition of iPolitics AM, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole, and representatives of other federal parties marked the occasion at a ceremony on Parliament Hill last night, during which, according to CBC News, “survivors of residential schools shared devastating stories of childhood trauma.”
For his part, Trudeau “urged non-Indigenous Canadians to … take responsibility in the greater mission of truth and reconciliation.”
