Inventory of Guidelines on the Treatment of Harms Resulting from Prescription Drug Use

March 2015

Introduction

The First Do No Harm Treatment Implementation Team has developed the Inventory of Guidelines on the Treatment of Harms Resulting from Prescription Drug Use. The inventory is organized according to topics that include the treatment of pain, substance dependence, withdrawal management and medication-assisted treatment. The inventory is not exhaustive, but is an index to the work that has been undertaken to develop guidelines relevant to these issues.

The inventory provides easy access to guidelines from credible organizations that can inform the best practices of those providing treatment through prescription drugs. Further, the inventory will help identify gaps where knowledge is needed and service could be improved.

The Treatment Implementation Team will continue to update the inventory as new guidelines come to our attention or are developed, and would appreciate your input on any guidelines you feel should be included. We have not evaluated the quality of the guidelines cited in the inventory; if we are able to perform an evaluation later, we will update the inventory accordingly.

We hope this inventory will be useful to you and you will share it with others who might benefit from it. Please contact Sheena Gereghty, sgereghty@ccsa.ca, if you have any suggestions for inclusion or to let us know if and how you are using the inventory.
