In Their Shoes: Sharing Psychotherapy Stories

Press Release

To coincide with the OPA’s 100-year anniversary, a new exhibit called In Their Shoes: Sharing Psychotherapy Stories will be held during our Annual Conference at the Omni King Edward Hotel in Toronto on March 27, 2020 from 17:00 – 19:00. The event will display shoes with a brief written story from the former owner about a positive long-term/intensive experience with psychotherapy. Following the event, the shoes will be donated to a charitable organization. We are currently seeking submissions from those with lived experience of healing through psychotherapy and would appreciate your support in facilitating the submissions. (Submission instructions are outlined below.) Please consider celebrating these mental health successes by participating in this initiative!

The exhibit will also feature a special performance by the Canadian Inuk throat singer Tanya Tagaq. Tanya Tagaq is an improvisational singer, an avant-garde composer, and a bestselling author. A member of the Order of Canada, a Polaris Music Prize winner, a JUNO Award winner, and a recipient of multiple honorary doctorates, Tanya Tagaq is one of the country’s most original and distinguished artists. In its many forms, Tanya Tagaq’s art challenges static ideas of genre and culture and contends with themes of environmentalism, human rights, and post-colonial issues. http://tanyatagaq.com
