Iqaluit, NU, (October 3, 2012) – A large recall of beef products contaminated with E. coli from an Alberta meat plant (XL Foods) is on-going. Some of the meat products have reached Nunavut.
The Department of Health and Social Services is urging people, who purchased beef products, including via food mail, on or after August 24, to check their freezers or fridges for beef products, and to contact your retailer to determine if you have the recalled product.
Environmental Health Officers from the Government of Nunavut Department of Health & Social Services (HSS) have contacted all Nunavut food retailers and restaurants to determine if any of the beef products were received, and to confirm that they have all been removed from shelves and destroyed. Environmental Health Officers continue to monitor this recall and ongoing investigation.
