Expanded eligibility in line with national guidelines, says Health Department
Vaccinations against human papillomavirus are now available to Nunavummiut aged nine to 26, the Government of Nunavut has announced.
The new eligibility for HPV vaccines is meant to align the territory with expanded national guidelines, Health Department spokesperson Danarae Sommerville said Dec. 16 in a media release.
HPV is a virus passed during sexual contact and is most common in people in their late teens and early 20s.
It can cause cervical cancer and genital warts, as well as cancers of the vagina and vulva, penis, anus, mouth or throat, Sommerville said.
