Since 2020, Paws of the North has rescued more than 850 animals — and brought vet care to remote First Nations communities for pups in need
Holly Marko has been working with northern communities and their dogs for almost a decade, and it all started with her dog Harper. “He is the one who shone the light on how magical northern dogs are,” says Marko, who adopted Harper and her two other dogs, Jay and Fate, from Attawapiskat First Nation.
After working with other dog rescues on the west coast, Marko in 2020 founded Paws of the North Rescue — a Muskoka-based dog rescue that works with six northern Ontario communities and has rescued more than 856 animals.
