Healthy Horizons Foundation to host 5k Fun Run/Walk in downtown Winnipeg

Winnipeg MB, June 26, 2017– On Thursday, June 29, 2017, the Healthy Horizons Foundation will host a 5K Fun Run in the heart of downtown Winnipeg at The Forks, one of Manitoba’s most historic meeting places. Healthy Horizons supports healthy and active living youth programs, with a focus on Canada’s North.

“It is important for the youth in Northern Canada to have the same opportunities available to them as those in larger urban centres,” stated Edward Kennedy, President & CEO, The North West Company. “Through Healthy Horizons, we hope to help improve access to youth programs that foster a lifelong connection to physical activity and healthy living.”

“All proceeds raised will support youth initiatives in communities where we operate Northern, NorthMart and Giant Tiger stores, with a focus on northern remote communities,” added Kennedy.

The race setting is unique given the historic Canadian roots of The North West Company. The course will begin at the Oodena Celebration Circle at The Forks, where First Nations have been meeting for over 6,000 years, and wind through St. Boniface, before looping back near Fort Gibraltar.
