Executive Message
For Health Nexus, 2013/14 was a challenging but incredibly rewarding year, with excitement and energy humming throughout the organization. That ‘buzz’ was generated by our own accomplishments and by positive developments in the health promotion sector, achieved despite the ever-present impact of economic restraint, cutbacks and a push to do ‘more with less’.
In the past year, we participated in a strengthened public discourse on health equity. As part of that discussion, we were pleased to contribute to planning the first provincial conference focused on strengthening partnerships between public health and primary health care, Prevent More to Treat Less: Public Health and Primary Health Together, which took place in June 2014.
Inside Health Nexus, there is a heightened sense of momentum among our team members, and we can feel the energy. We made a commitment to launch and build a social enterprise this year, leveraging our expertise in network and partnership development. We also started to lead several new initiatives in breastfeeding and prenatal education to support the provincial Healthy Kids Strategy. Looking ahead, we launched a new strategic planning process to guide our work and focus our priorities over the next several years.
We are pleased to share our key 2013/14 accomplishments in this report. It’s always a challenge to highlight only a few of our many successes, but we hope that these examples demonstrate the breadth and the depth of our commitment to support healthy, vibrant and thriving communities. We are looking forward to 2014/15, which will mark our 30th anniversary, with excitement and optimism!
