Health-needs assessment underway in Fredericton

14 February 2012

Fredericton (CNB) – Work has begun on a health-needs assessment for the Fredericton area.

“Funding was provided for a health-needs assessment for the Fredericton area in the 2011-12 provincial budget and I am pleased that work is now underway on this important initiative,” said Health Minister Madeleine Dubé. “An advisory committee, which includes representation from various community partners including municipalities, physicians, First Nations, as well as the business and education communities, has been established to oversee the project. This initiative will engage the community in identifying health-care needs and how health services can best be delivered in this area.”The Department of Health will support the initiative financially and assist Horizon Health Network in gathering data and population health information specific to the region.

“It is important for us to understand the health care needs of our communities,” said Donald J. Peters, president and chief executive officer, Horizon Health Network. “The information generated from the needs assessment will help us to better use our resources to respond to the health care needs of Fredericton residents.”

An assessment for Oromocto is now complete and the executive summary is available on the Horizon Health Network web site. The health-needs assessment for the Fredericton area is scheduled to be completed by summer 2012.
