Health Council of Canada meets in Thunder Bay, Ont. Sept. 24 – 25

TORONTO, Sept. 21 – To provide a national perspective on the progress of health care renewal, the Health Council of Canada travels coast-to-coast meeting in five different locations each year. On Sept. 24 and 25, the Health Council will meet in Thunder Bay, Ont., to connect with local stakeholders and to continue its work monitoring, reporting on and advancing the renewal of quality health care in Canada. While in Thunder Bay, Councillors will tour the Northern Ontario School of Medicine and Distance Learning Program at Confederation College on Monday, Sept. 24. Although Council proceedings are held in closed session, members of the media are invited to attend either tour. Tour details and interviews with members of Council or CEO Dr. Don Juzwishin can be coordinated through the Health Council’s media relations officer.

As part of its stakeholder engagement, Council will also hear presentations from senior staff representing the Anishnawbe-Mushkiki Aboriginal Community Health Centre and the North West Local Health Integrated Network (LHIN).

The Health Council of Canada, created by the 2003 First Ministers’ Accord on Health Care Renewal following the recommendations of the Romanow and Kirby reports, is mandated to monitor and report on the progress of health care renewal in Canada. The 26 Councillors were appointed by the participating provinces, territories and the Government of Canada and have expertise and broad experience in community care, Aboriginal health, nursing, health education and administration, finance, medicine and pharmacy.
