HWDSB trustees say they expect people against masking to protest outside the meeting

Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board (HWDSB) trustees are set to discuss whether or not they’ll return to imposing a masking mandate for students and staff.

It comes two weeks after the public school board trustees supported asking people to wear masks, but fell short of requiring masking.

Monday night, trustees will meet again, this time with an update from HWDSB staff on whether the board can impose a mandate.

HWDSB director Sheryl Robinson Petrazzini said during the last meeting it would be hard to implement and suggested the board may not have legal grounds to do so because the province hasn’t imposed a wider mandate.

“The real concern is about the children,” Todd White, the trustee for Ward 5 and 10 and former HWDSB chair, told CBC Hamilton.
