Gwich’in Tribal Council Office COVID-19 Exposure

Press Release

INUVIK – Due to the recent exposure notices in Inuvik by the Office of the Chief Public Health Officer, the Gwich’in Tribal Council wishes to advise that we are continuing to keep the office closed until Monday, November 8 and are closely monitoring the situation.

One (1) GTC employee at our head office (Chief Jim Koe Building) in Inuvik was notified earlier this week that they had tested positive for COVID-19. They are doing well and recovering at home. Upon notification, the GTC closed the offices immediately and arranged for a full sanitization which occurred this week. In accordance with Public Health direction, potentially impacted staff were tested with negative results to this point.

The office protocols that we have been following since March of 2020 and vaccinated status of employees appear to have contained the exposure at this time. Staff continues to work from home during this period.

Please remember to follow the recommended COVID-19 protocols such as:

  1. Wear a mask and socially distance in public places;
  2. Wash hands and sanitize frequently; and,
  3. Get vaccinated.

Take care of each other and keep safe.
