Grants available to help communities prevent elder abuse

The Alberta government is calling for applications from community partners for grants aimed at addressing elder abuse.

A total of $1 million in grants are available this year to help communities throughout Alberta prevent elder abuse. Municipalities, seniors groups and community organizations are invited to apply for up to $150,000 over three years. Grant funding is earmarked for the development of innovative ways to address and stop elder abuse.

“We must ensure Alberta seniors are safe in their own homes and in their communities. This grant program will help communities devise ways to raise awareness and pursue the best strategies aimed at ending elder abuse.”
Sarah Hoffman, Minister of Seniors

The three-year $3-million Co-ordinated Community Response Grant Program was announced in 2014. Last year, the government awarded 19 grants totaling $939,000.

The application deadline is Monday, November 30. Application forms are available online.
