Grand River launches program to reduce health care expenses for Indigenous communities – Waterloo Region Record

Sept. 6, 2022

KITCHENER — A new program at Grand River Hospital aims to make health care more affordable for local Indigenous communities.

The hospital announced Tuesday it has launched an Indigenous Careship, similar to a scholarship or bursary that provides financial support for patients receiving health care.

To help deal with the burden that can come with a health condition or new diagnosis, funds will be provided directly to the patient and their family to help with the expenses related to their care.

It can cover anything from child care during treatment or appointments, special foods or nutritional supplements, costs associated with travel to and from the hospital, delivered meals and more.
