GNWT Launches Dashboard to Track COVID-19, Flu, and RSV Trends

Press Release

September 25, 2024

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) has launched a new visual dashboard to track the presence of COVID-19, Influenza (Flu) and Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in Behchokǫ̀, Fort Simpson, Fort Smith, Hay River, Norman Wells, and Yellowknife. This easy-to-use dashboard provides residents with clear visualizations, including graphs, to help them stay informed about viral trends in their community.

The dashboard displays key information, including:

  • The presence of COVID-19, Flu, and RSV
  • Detection levels: High, moderate, low, or not detected
  • Wastewater trends from the past year

The GNWT’s wastewater monitoring program is funded in part by the Public Health Agency of Canada and delivered in partnership between the Departments of Health and Social Services, Environment and Climate Change (Taiga Environmental Lab), Municipal and Community Affairs, the National Microbiology Laboratory, and Northwest Territories communities. Weekly samples are collected from participating communities to test for these viruses, and more communities can join the program at any time.

Wastewater monitoring provides early warning signs of virus activity, allowing public health officials to respond quickly and share information with residents. By using the dashboard, residents can take steps to protect themselves, such as getting vaccinated (as needed), washing hands frequently, and staying home when sick.
