Press Release
YELLOWKNIFE October 27, 2021 – There is no clear downward trend in the number of new infections of COVID-19 occurring daily in Behchokǫ̀. The Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) continues to see COVID-19 infections with no clear chain of transmission which indicates that community transmission continues in the community.
After consulting with local leadership in the Community of Behchokǫ̀, the CPHO is announcing an extension to the Behchokǫ̀ Temporary COVID-19 Restrictions through to 11:59PM on November 8, 2021.
Extending the Public Health Order is a difficult decision that must be made as this slow burn of COVID-19 throughout Behchokǫ̀ puts the surrounding communities at significant risk of importation and sparking further outbreaks.
Persons may direct inquiries about public health orders to ProtectNWT at [email protected](link sends e-mail) or call 8-1-1 (in the Northwest Territories) or 1-833-378-8297. Full details and copies of the order will be available on the GNWT COVID-19 website under the Current Public Health Orders.
The CPHO continues to work closely with the Tłı̨chǫ Government, the Tłı̨chǫ Community Services Agency (TCSA) and the COVID Secretariat on the response to the COVID-19 activity in the community.
The CPHO would like to remind all residents that the most important thing they can do to protect themselves from severe outcomes from COVID-19 is to get vaccinated. All residents 12 years of age and older who have not yet received two doses of the vaccination should make arrangements to get fully vaccinated. Check NTHSSA website to see if you are eligible for a third dose or booster vaccine(link is external).
