GN Goes to Public Tender for Medical Air Travel Contract

News Release

Iqaluit, Nunavut (March 3, 2011) – Nunavut’s medical travel contracts with the airlines, which officially end on March 31, 2011, have been extended for four months in order to go forward with a new Request for Proposal (RFP).

“Airline travel is a key part of health care in Nunavut,” said Minister of Health and Social Services, the Hon. Tagak Curley. “The decision to once again go through the RFP process will ensure the best use of public funds while at the same time providing the best possible care to Nunavummiut.”The Department of Health and Social Services, in conjunction with Community and Government Services, has issued the RFP through public tender. In the meantime, a four month extension will provide sufficient time to award and process the contracts.

Medical travel contracts with the airlines are in place to set the cost of air transportation of health and social service clients to, from and within Nunavut.
