The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT), in partnership with the NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA), is offering $750 Get Active NWT grants to community groups who help to get NWT residents active this year.“We all need to be more active,” says the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs Robert C. McLeod. “Get Active NWT events offer residents a fun way to be active, which, in turn, improves their mental and physical well-being.”
Created in 2006, Get Active NWT encourages community groups to organize local events to get residents more physically active. Grant recipients must organize at least three physical activity events. Detailed criteria and an application form are available at: www.getactivenwt.ca.
“I encourage community groups to host a community physical activity and have a blast,” said Ms. Jennifer Morin, Executive Director of the NWTRPA. “Physical activity makes you happy and feel good, so get active NWT!”
The deadline to apply for funding this year is October 8, 2010.
The Government of the Northwest Territories is working to build our future by promoting healthy and active living. Improving the physical and mental well-being of our people will create healthy, educated Northerners as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s Vision of Northerners Working Together.
