Get Active NWT Grants Awarded

R(16)563 – Tuesday, December 21, 2010

Thanks to the 87 Get Active NWT grants, over 250 new and exciting physical activity events will be happening this winter.

The Department of Municipal and Community Affairs (MACA) and the NWT Recreation and Parks Association (NWTRPA) recently awarded 42 more Get Active NWT grants to community groups across the NWT, on top of the 45 grants distributed in November.“I would like to thank all the community leaders for organizing such a great variety of physically active events,” said the Minister of Municipal and Community Affairs, Robert C. McLeod. “Thanks to your efforts, there will be a record number of Get Active NWT events held this winter.”

Participants who attend events will have an opportunity to win flights for two, courtesy of long-time supporter First Air, as well as a variety of Get Active NWT promotional items.

“There are now so many creative events out there to engage people in physical activity,” said Mr. Geoff Ray, Executive Director of the NWTRPA. “Let’s all get out and move this winter!”

The Government of the Northwest Territories is working to build our future by promoting healthy and active living. Improving the physical and mental wellbeing of NWT residents will create healthy, educated Northerners as envisioned in the 16th Assembly’s vision of Northerners Working Together.
