George Couchie of NFN to train healthcare professionals on how to improve First Nations health outcomes – My North Bay Now

Health care professionals are getting special training to help Indigenous people with their future health.

The individual who will carry out that training is George Couchie of the Nipissing First Nation.

Couchie is a retired OPP officer who has trained police officers, teachers and health care workers about First Nation issues.

The North East Local Health Integration Network is creating the program which it calls Cultural Mindfulness Training.

The training begins this spring and will be offered at the hospitals in North Bay, Sudbury, Timmins and Sault Ste. Marie.
