Fox in Arviat tests positive for rabies
The Department of Health is advising Arviat residents that a fox has tested positive for rabies.
It’s the same fox that was killed by a girl using a frozen mop. Some children may have had contact with this fox before it was killed.
Dogs and foxes can transmit rabies to people. If you have been bitten or scratched, or had any contact with a fox, please go to the health centre and report the incident immediately. Treatment must be started quickly.
If you see a fox or wolf wandering around the community, or if your dog has had contact with a fox or wolf, call the conservation officer immediately at 867-857-3169 or the regional environmental health officer at 867-222-2373.
