FNHA: Proof of Vaccination Now Required for Visitors of Long-Term Care Facilities

Press Release

As of Tuesday, Oct. 12, all visitors to long-term care and assisted living homes will be required to show proof of vaccination with their BC Vaccine Card.

Until Nov. 30, visitors are permitted to be only partially vaccinated with their BC Vaccine Card (two weeks past the date of their vaccination appointment). After Nov. 30, visitors are required to be fully immunized (both doses).

These rules will apply to all visitors, essential or social, excluding children under 12 or those with an approved medical exemption.

Until fully immunized, partially vaccinated visitors must wear a medical mask while in the facility, and undergo rapid testing prior to entering. Visitors who are not fully vaccinated after Nov. 30 will not be permitted to enter the facility, regardless of wearing a mask.

The new restrictions on visitation are grounded in regional and provincial health officer orders.

Visit the BC Centre for Disease Control website for full details on the new rules.

How to get vaccinated

There are two ways to get vaccinated:

  • You can register online at: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/getvaccinated.html
  • You can look for drop-in clinics in your area: https://www.gov.bc.ca/VaxForBC

You can also register by phone at 1-833-838-2323 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., every day, with reduced hours on statutory holidays. Dial 711 if you are hearing-impaired.

If you get vaccinated during the month of October, be sure to share a photo and your reason for getting vaccinated to fnha.ca/vaxchamp and get a “Just a kid from the Rez” hat from Kiefer Collison and the FNHA. You’ll also be automatically entered into a draw for a $500 Visa gift card.
