Five questions to ask federal election candidates on health

Press Release

April 15, 2025

Do you know where your federal election candidates stand on key health care issues?

Throughout the campaign period, the Canadian Medical Association (CMA) has been fighting for care, highlighting how the next government can prioritize solutions to improve the system we all rely on. We’ve called on all parties to provide clear plans on how they’ll address issues such as lack of access to primary care, overwhelmed emergency departments, long wait lists to see a specialist, and the impact of false health information.

As election day approaches, it’s crucial to make an informed decision on who gets your vote. Ask your local candidates these five questions.

  1. Canadians face extraordinary wait times for family, emergency and specialist care. What’s your party’s plan to ensure Canadians receive care when and where they need it?
  2. Several provinces are actively recruiting physicians from the U.S. to move to Canada. What will you do to expedite the immigration process to welcome more physicians to Canada?
  3. Climate emergencies are becoming more common. What is your party proposing to make sure the health care system is prepared?
  4. False health information is causing real harm. How is your party addressing this issue?
  5. Not everyone has equitable access to care and that’s unacceptable. What is your party doing to ensure better health care services for First Nations, Inuit and Métis People?
