First Nations lacking clean water and wastewater infrastructure is a national tragedy and embarrassment to the country said Thunder Bay-Superior North MP Patty Hajdu during a funding announcement on Tuesday.
Hajdu added in her address that developing access to clean and reliable drinking water is a key component to reconciliation. A committment of nearly $8.9 million for water, wastewater and stormwater management from the federal government’s Clean Water and Wastewater Fund will help 235 projects on Ontario First Nations.
“It is about making sure that everybody had equal access to quality of life. Those foundations that make healthy communities are so important and it is part of the reason why I went into politics,” said Hajdu after the announcement.
