Agreement renews automatically on annual basis

Iron Bridge – Huron Shores council has passed a motion to provide fire protection service to Thessalon First Nation. The agreement renews automatically on an annual basis.Thessalon First Nation is an Anishinaabe community, accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway, west of Iron Bridge. The First Nation is situated between the two stations of the Huron Shores Fire Department, that in Little Rapids (Ward 1) and the other in Iron Bridge (Ward 3).

Thessalon First Nation is home to both residential and commercial structures, with currently 50-plus homes. There are also cottages and trailers located on its lands along Lake Huron. The traditional territory of the First Nation was reserved by the Robinson-Huron Treaty of 1850.

As of May 2021, Thessalon First Nation had a total of 936 registered members. The First Nation will host its 28th annual traditional pow wow on July 1-2.
