Standing committee issues report on health audit, focuses on staffing, training
Nunavut MLAs want to see more training for health care staff, cross-departmental communication and government-wide accountability from the territory’s departments of health and finance.
These requests were contained in three recommendations made June 5 in a standing committee report on the review of the Office of the Auditor General’s March 7 health audit—an audit which showed frontline health workers in Nunavut do not have the support needed to deliver adequate health care.
The report follows a two-day committee meeting held with the auditor general in Iqaluit in early March to discuss the damning audit which made 17 recommendations to the Department of Health, five of which were relevant to the Department of Finance.
