“The concern remains that it will not be a fully funded school food program as many other countries in the G7 already have, but it is a start,” said an advocate.
The federal government announced it has invested $108.5 million over three years in school food programs in the province, but that may not be enough for York region schools still on the wait-list for funding.
The agreement under the National School Food Program is expected to provide more than 9.8 million healthy meals to 160,000 Ontarian students this school year and includes 130,000 more school meals to students in Indigenous communities.
