A First Nations community near Miramichi is expected to finally have clean drinking water thanks to a $9.2 million investment by the federal government.
While most Canadians take clean drinking water for granted, Eel Ground First Nation has been under a drinking water advisory for the past decade.
The money will be spent on water and wastewater treatment upgrades, improving the community’s current water system, including drilling a second well, as well as for a solid waste diversion centre set to up next month.
Eel Ground is just one of 74 First Nations communities across Canada affected by water advisories.
Federal Indigenous Services Minister Jane Philpott says the government has a plan for ‘every single one of them’ and that it will make sure they’re all fixed.
