Election 2025: ‘It’s time to implement the critical solutions we fought for’

Press Release

April 30, 2025

This election was a defining moment for Canada. And nothing defines us more than our health system. While it may be hurting, we know Canadians care deeply about it, and we have solutions at the ready. This was the Canadian Medical Association’s message to political leaders throughout the election campaign period.

Now, with a new government mandate, there’s an opportunity to create a thriving health care system all Canadians can depend on.

“In an election primarily focused on the economy and U.S. threats, physicians and all those who care about health came together to ensure it was on the political agenda,” said CMA President Dr. Joss Reimer. “Now it’s time to implement the critical solutions we fought for.”

The CMA secured some key commitments in this election and will hold the government to account to make sure vital solutions are advanced, including:

These solutions will make a difference at a time when 6.5 million Canadians don’t have regular access to a family doctor and struggle to access care.

The CMA also continues to highlight how false information is impacting the health of Canadians — and the importance of fighting against it. The CMA will look to the government for action.

“We saw the power that comes from speaking as one voice in support of health care. Count on us to continue advocating for key solutions that are urgently needed,” said Dr. Reimer. “It’s time to help the millions of Canadians who are being underserved right now and protect our future generations.”
