Press Release
January 6, 2026
The Department of Health is advising all Kugaaruk residents that the do not consume water advisory has now been lifted. However, the boil water advisory is still in place for the water treatment plant and all on-the-land water sources for drinking. This is a safety measure due to a mechanical issue at the water treatment plant.
During a boil water advisory, all water for consumption must be brought to a rolling boil for a minimum of one full minute.
It is essential that all water be boiled for the following uses:
Water can be boiled either in a pot or kettle on a stove or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off. Please remember to use all camp stoves outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide from entering your home. The boil water advisory is only for the uses listed above.
The Department of Health will notify the community when the boil water advisory is lifted.
