Experts from across Canada will be in attendance to share knowledge, strategies and innovations
From November 1 – 4, 2017 Diabetes Canada and the Canadian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (CSEM) will hold their 20th annual Professional Conference and Annual Meetings in Edmonton at the Shaw Centre. This conference, the largest of its kind in Canada, brings together top health-care professionals and scientists from across the country and around the world to share the latest research into the understanding, care and management of diabetes.
“We are thrilled to bring together some of the leading minds in diabetes care to share information and discuss the latest advances in diabetes research and treatment,” says Dr. Jan Hux, chief science officer for Diabetes Canada. “Since the days of Banting and Best, Canada has been a world leader in diabetes research. With Edmonton playing a pivotal role in that history through The Edmonton Protocol and its ground-breaking work in the area of islet transplantation (transplantation of donated islets cells from the pancreas), this is the perfect place to hold our 20thanniversary event.“
Speakers at the conference will cover a variety of topics to educate and inform health-care providers on the latest advances in diabetes treatment. This includes cutting-edge research, the impact of physical activity, pregnancy, metal health, diabetes in Indigenous communities and much more.
“We look forward to showcasing some of the best new research available to make the lives of people living with diabetes better, as well as highlighting scientific innovations that bring us one step closer to the possibility of a cure,” says Dr. Bruce A. Perkins, clinician-scientist at the Leadership Sinai Centre for Diabetes and co-chair of the 2017 conference. “Diabetes research is developing in leaps and bounds and this is an opportunity for health-care professionals to learn about these developments as well as the newest advances in clinical practice.”
