Date Announced for the Inquest into the Death of Heather Ashley Winterstein

Dr. Karen Schiff, Regional Supervising Coroner, West Region, Hamilton Office, announced today that a date has been scheduled for the inquest into the death of Heather Ashley Winterstein. The inquest will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Monday, March 30, 2026. Dr. David Eden will be the presiding officer. Julian Roy, Christina Varrette and Vivian Sim will be the inquest counsel.

Ms. Winterstein, 24 years old, died in hospital on December 10, 2021, following discharge from a recent hospital emergency room visit.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Ms. Winterstein’s death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing further deaths.

The inquest is expected to last 13 days and hear from approximately 22 witnesses.
