Cambridge Memorial Hospital has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in its inpatient mental health unit.

In a press release, the hospital says two patients are sick in Wing A of Level 3.

“A hospital outbreak is declared when two or more patients and/or staff test positive for an infectious illness that was acquired in hospital within a timeframe that is consistent with the epidemiology of the disease, and when there is a link between the cases,” Cambridge Memorial Hospital said in the press release.

Staff at the hospital are now taking added precautions to limit the spread of the virus, including wearing masks, enhanced cleaning and making each patient eat their meals in their room.

The hospital says the outbreak may be declared over by Monday if there are no new cases.
