Covid-19 Information for Membertou Community and Staff

Press Release

April 1, 2020

Kwe Membertou,

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, here is some information regarding Membertou’s operations at this time:

Membertou is currently working with an essential-services only model and has drastically reduced the number of businesses and facilities that are open in the community.

  1. The Membertou Market remains open for essentials and fuel (regulated precautions are taking place, including physical distancing, increased sanitation, and barriers between staff/customers for safety).
  2. The Membertou Wellness Home remains open Mon-Fri, 9am-12pm and has made adjustments to services. They will operate on an appointment-only system during this time. Anyone experiencing symptoms related to the coronavirus must call 811 for assessment.
  3. The Membertou Band Office is operating with limited hours: Membertou Social Department is open, Monday-Friday 9am-12pm. Membertou Human Resources is open Monday-Friday 1:30pm-4:30pm. All staff who are able to work from home, are doing so.
  4. The Membertou Tobacco Shop will be open Monday, Wednesday, Friday, noon-5pm.

All other Membertou businesses and facilities are closed until further notice, with some essential exceptions as necessary.

The number one priority during this time is the health and safety of the community. Chief and Council are continuing to ask community members to stay at home, and continue to practice physical distancing; only going out for necessities. The COVID-19 virus is serious, and we all must do our part to stop its spread.

To stay up-to-date and informed, daily updates will be provided on Facebook, @MembertouCommunity, and online at
