COVID-19 identified in Arctic Bay

Iqaluit, Nunavut (February 12, 2022) – Dr. Michael Patterson, Nunavut’s Chief Public Health Officer is announcing one new case of COVID-19 in Arctic Bay.

“The individual is in isolation and doing well,” said Dr. Patterson. “For the time being, current public health measures remain in place and I strongly urge everyone in Arctic Bay to follow them, including the masks mandate,” said Dr. Patterson.

As a reminder, the current public health measures in Arctic Bay are as follows:

  • Outdoor gatherings are now permitted to 25 people.
  • Indoor gatherings in dwellings are now allowed up to five people, plus household members.
  • Government, Inuit organizations and all other offices may remain open.
  • Schools may remain open.
  • Childcare facilities may remain open.
  • Indoor public gatherings, including community halls and recreation centres are limited to 25 people or 25 per cent capacity.
  • Gyms and fitness centres can stay open to 25 people or 25 per cent capacity for solo workouts only; no group sessions.
  • Places of worship are permitted up to 50 people or 25 per cent capacity; no singing allowed.
  • Arenas are permitted up to 25 people or 25 per cent capacity, as well as 25 spectators. No team sports allowed. ·
  • All non-essential businesses remain open, including personal services.
  • Taxis may have one fare per trip, with mandatory masks.
  • Group counselling sessions are open to 10 people.
  • Parks and playgrounds may open, but buildings remain closed.
  • Masks are mandatory across the territory.

Anyone who develops COVID-19 symptoms is advised to call the COVID hotline at
1-888-975-8601 between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. EDT or notify their community health centre right away by telephone. Please do not go to the health centre in person.
