COO – Health Sector Update: First Nations COVID-19 Testing in Ontario – Weekly Report 89

Press Release

Key messages:

  • There was no change in the proportion of First Nations people with 2 or more doses or with those receiving 1 dose, in the week ending Jan 9, 2022 compared to the previous week.
  • The number of new positive increased again to about 1,103 in the 7-day period ending Jan 9, 2022, up from 926 the previous week.  The number of positive results among First Nations to date is 9,107. Ontario numbers went down in the past week.  Note that counts of positive results since Dec 31, 2021 underestimate the true number due to changes in eligibility for testing.
  • Hospital admission and death rates continued to decrease among First Nations and across Ontario.
  • Data for the other metrics previously reported (testing, positivity, age and regional breakdowns etc) are still being tracked and available on request (just not included in this high-level report). There are no substantial changes in any of these rates as of Jan 9, 2022.
