The Midland hospital is collaborating with the Barrie Native Advisory Circle in an effort to improve patient care

Georgian Bay General Hospital is committing to providing culturally safe and equitable care for First Nation, Métis and Inuit residents.

“We know we have much improvement ahead. We are committed to it,” said Angie Saini, vice president of clinical services and chief nursing executive at GBGH.

Last year, the Midland hospital entered into a formal relationship with the Indigenous Health Circle through the Barrie Native Advisory Circle (BANAC), to begin identifying gaps in local health services and establish goals to improve services offered to the Indigenous community.

By signing the agreement, the two organizations promised to have open and honest conversations to identify common priorities and issues and seek solutions.
