Congratulations to Gregory Barker, Winner of the Healing Our Spirit Worldwide Logo Contest

Press Release

Aug 15, 2022

The First Nations Health Authority (FNHA) is pleased to announce the new logo for Healing Our Spirit Worldwide – the Ninth Gathering. The event will take place from Sept. 11 to 15, 2023, in Vancouver, British Columbia (BC).

The design, created by Gregory Barker of Bonaparte Indian Band, was selected from 44 logo contest entries. Gregory works in the curriculum department for Chief Atahm School, a Secwepemc immersion School in Chase, BC.

Originally trained in video game design, after graduating Gregory found his passion and talent for graphic design, with a preferred medium of working in digital. Gregory will receive $1,200 for his contribution.

The theme of the Ninth Gathering is Resiliency through Indigenous Teachings, Celebrating Wellness, Health Governance and Nation-Rebuilding. Gregory’s logo creation is aptly named “Celebrating Resiliency”:

The plant represents a starting point, growth and resilience.

The mountains represent the obstacles for Indigenous peoples through and through.

The sun represents a clarity and strength of those that have endured and came out on top.

The rays are separate, representing the many Indigenous people, from all parts. They shine together.

The togetherness is represented by the circle around the rays.

The bird represents movement, freedom and strength.

The FNHA lifts our hands up to Gregory for his inspiring creation and all artists who submitted their work as we look forward to this important gathering.

Every four years, Healing Our Spirit Worldwide brings together thousands of Indigenous leaders and health care professionals from around the world to share and celebrate the healing power of traditional Indigenous knowledge and cultures.

The Ninth Gathering will be hosted by the FNHA on the unceded and ancestral territory of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) People.
